Built in 1991, the City of London’s Aquatic Center has long been celebrated as one of the premier facilities in southwestern Ontario. Aiming to enhance its reputation, the city embarked on a transformative journey to re-imagine the Aquatic Center. Given the building’s age, an important decision had to be made: renovate or repurpose?
In a move towards sustainability and modernization, the city entrusted Abbott with master planning and cost management to overhaul and upgrade the facility. This project included installing an adjustable pool floor system, essential for the upcoming Special Olympic games.
The project was characterized by its high-risk and fast-paced nature, requiring meticulous consideration of every detail, from the restrooms to pool water heating systems. The revitalization effort didn't stop there. New entrances, vibrant lighting, interactive areas, and private club spaces were added, creating an inviting and modern environment.
The result? Fans and visitors alike cheered not only for the renovations but also for the impressive teams utilizing the state-of-the-art facility. The City of London’s Aquatic Center now stands as a testament to innovative design and sustainable redevelopment, setting a new standard for aquatic facilities in southwestern Ontario.
